Digital Piano selection

Choosing the correct digital piano is an exercise in itself. The first thing that you need to decide is what type of digital piano you should buy. You have to consider all the people in your home who would like to take a turn in playing the digital piano you have bought. The digital piano you choose should be easy enough to be played by all interested family members.

The next thing you have to decide on is what features you are looking for in your digital piano. Each member of your family may have different requirements and you have to cater to all of them if possible. The entry level digital pianos have less number of instrumental voices than the higher models. The higher models of digital pianos have features which can produce the sound of the accompanying instruments also.

The size and the shape of the digital piano is also an important factor to be considered when choosing the right one for your home. You have to decide where to place it in your home and the dimensions of the room has to be considered in this case. You may select a digital piano, which can be placed on a foldable stand when it is played so that you can put it away when it is not in use. You may choose a cabinet type of digital piano, which has a retractable keyboard and pedals and has covers. If there is no shortage of space you can go for a digital piano, which has the shapes of a grand piano but is smaller in size.

The next consideration is the price. It is quite evident that more features mean a higher price. Starting from as low as $500 only up to a price of more than $5000 you have a wide range of digital pianos to choose from with different features, sizes, shapes, colors and other typical characteristics.

It sounds better when you are able to play your piano with musical instruments played by others to accompany you. But if you get this accompaniment with your digital piano, why shouldn’t you avail of it? The availability of these accompanying instruments whenever you need them, makes the playing a digital piano all the more fun.

Selecting the best digital piano with the correct tone is a difficult job for novices. You have to be an expert to understand whether the tone is correct or not as each manufacturer has a typical set of tones stored in the memory of the digital pianos manufactured by them. The same note from two digital pianos from two different manufacturers, may not be exactly identical to each other.

The feel of the keyboard of the digital piano is another factor that has to be considered when selecting the correct digital piano. You may be used to playing an acoustic piano by exerting a typical amount of pressure on the keys to get the required note. The keyboard of the digital piano should have the same feel or else you will be uncomfortable while playing it.

A Digital Piano for your needs

Are you fed up with playing piano recitals on traditional acoustic pianos owned by various musical institutions and would like to own one for yourself? Though you may find it very convenient to have an acoustic piano in your house, it may not always be feasible to do so. Before buying your own traditional acoustic piano, there are a lot of things you have to consider.

The first and foremost thing that you have to consider is whether you have the sufficient amount of money in your bank account to finance the purchase of a new traditional acoustic piano because a good and new acoustic piano may cost up to $5000 which is quite a good amount of money. You have to seriously think whether investing this amount of money on the acoustic piano is actually going to help you in the long run or not.

If you are a novice and just learning to play a piano, then blocking up so much capital on a musical instrument may not be a very good idea at all. You can look for a second-hand acoustic piano, which will cost much less or decide to buy one at a later stage when you have become more of an expert.

The second consideration is that whether the traditional acoustic piano you have decided to buy is going to fit into the room without restricting your movements. A small room with a large acoustic piano may not be able to have space for other furniture as well. Once you have installed the piano in your room it is very difficult to shift it as it is quite heavy. Another difficulty of having an acoustic piano in your living room means that you have to keep the piano away from the walls which will further reduce the space in your room.

These are the main two considerations you have to take into account before buying an acoustic piano. Both the problems are easily taken care of, if you plan to buy a digital piano instead of an acoustic piano. The problem of too much cost is taken care of as the digital piano comes at almost half the cost of a new acoustic piano. The problem of space is taken care of by the fact that the digital piano is small compared to the size of a traditional acoustic piano. It can be placed anywhere in the room and even kept against the wall, leaving more space in the room.

On top of these two factors are the features provided by a digital piano. The electronics of the digital piano offer the features for playing various other instruments, MIDI connections for hooking up with other electronic devices, output jacks for headphones and external speakers and a variety of other features. You can play it in the silent mode whenever you wish without disturbing others, by using the headphones.

All these additional advantages of a digital piano over a traditional acoustic one will definitely help you decide which one to buy; however, it may be wise to run through some of the digital piano reviews before you decide which one to buy.

A Digital Piano vs. an Acoustic Piano

How do you choose between a digital piano and an acoustic piano? This doubt crept up after the digital piano was introduced into the market as a replacement for the acoustic piano. There are different viewpoints between the advantages and the disadvantages of a digital piano among the modern piano players. Each group holds that his viewpoint is the correct one and the argument rages on.

Some of the differences between the two, are given below for you to shape your own viewpoint when you choose to buy one or the other.

• The acoustic piano, which you have been familiar with for so long, is a very big musical instrument which takes up a lot of space. The digital piano is on the other hand much smaller in size and does not take up much room on the same stage. It looks more like a chest of drawers and the depth is far less than a traditional model. It can be kept against the wall which is not possible in the case of a traditional acoustic piano.
• The intricate design of an acoustic piano with all the internal parts makes it a very costly piece of equipment, a musical instrument which requires a lot of skill and time to make. The digital piano on the other hand is less costly to make, as a large number of its internal parts can be mass produced. This makes the digital piano much more affordable to those who want to own a piano, but do not have the money to buy a traditional acoustic piano.
• The traditional acoustic piano is very heavy and cannot be moved from the place where it sits very easily, whereas the digital piano is much lighter and smaller in size and can be shifted from one corner of the room or stage to another very easily.
• The traditional acoustic piano has strings which have to be tuned before they can produce the perfect notes. This tuning is a very painstaking job which has to be done regularly. A digital piano on the other hand, does not have any strings which have to be tuned once in a while.
• The main notes produced by an acoustic piano are supplemented by harmonics which improves the total sound quality when multiple keys are pressed simultaneously. This advantage is not available in the case of a digital piano.
• The resonance and the reverberations produced in a traditional acoustic piano take the sound quality on an altogether different high, which is not possible in a digital piano as normally this level of resonance is not available in a digital piano.
• The greatest advantage of a digital piano is that the keys can be used to produce the sounds of different musical instruments like flutes, drums and others which is absolutely impossible in a traditional acoustic piano. The digital piano can have MIDI connections, outputs for headphones and loudspeakers which cannot be found on a traditional acoustic piano.

How Don Started His Musical Career

 Today is slightly different on this blog from the usual, I will not be posting any product reviews, no tutorial on how to do something, nor a video about me playing the piano. Today, I will be sharing a certain story with you, of why I got into music when I did so and how it happened.

All of this happened a very long time ago, if you have read my about me page on this very blog, I have already shared a part of the story, but there is more to it, so if you feel that this is similar, keep reading, you only know half of it.

So let’s start from the beginning. My father was a music teacher, professional musician and also a producer for many famous musicians, no names will be mentioned however, for legal reasons.

Obviously, when you grow up in a home where the main thing people talk about is music, with music playing in the background, with dozens of different instruments in every room, on the walls and with a lamp that looks like a harp… You will eventually need to take at least a few steps in your parents’ footprints.

I was approximately 7 years old when all of this started, my father slowly started pressing music on me, until that I had no interest for it on my own. At first it started off by just playing a few amazing songs on the piano for me, showing me how far I could get with time and dedication, which was obviously inspiring.

Then the dreadful part started, I had to start memorizing what keys to press, doing it all with proper timing and perfect form, and the song which was the outcome (a month later) wasn’t anywhere near as impressive, compared to what my dad had played which was a bit depressing.

This was what we call the “pain period” in every field. Getting started is always the hardest part as I have already covered on this blog as well. If you get past your initial fears and struggles, you will realize that things are not nearly as hard or complicated and you can get things done much more efficiently.

After I had learnt that first song and struggled with learning notes and whatnot, learning the next song became a lot easier and obviously the song was a bit harder as well. The second song I played perfectly sounded freaking amazing and I was really proud.

After the second song I was so amused when it came to music and my father quickly noticed the burning desire in me to learn more, rather quickly, he also started teaching me how to play the very same songs on the guitar and the recorder.

From there on my passion for music grew and grew as I progressed in the world of music, constantly getting better and better, knowing ever more complex songs. The best part for me was that I could play my favorite songs on three instruments, which really does make you proud and constantly striving for more.

This is because first of all, you obviously love your favorite songs and it’s a good feeling to be able to do the same as your favorite musicians. The other key thing regarding why it makes you feel so good is that these songs are usually a lot harder than the ones musicians put in textbooks, so you have to work harder to achieve it.

That’s really all I have to say to you today, I might one day make a part 2 of this to show you how I progressed over time, including a 16-year old me bashing away at drums at a rock concert and me graduating a music university.

What is waiting for you on Digital Piano News

Hello everyone!

This post will be a short description of what you can expect from this website in the future, it is the first post I am writing on it, ever. If you’re not reading this as the first thing on this site, you probably will not learn a whole lot from it.

The reason for this is that I am not a hundred percent certain what will become of this, as my plans and goals for it may change over time, I have not given it a whole lot of though yet, I figured the best thing to do, to get started, would be to at least take action.

Currently I am planning to create this a blog about both me AND digital pianos. Do not worry about the part of it being about me as well, I will not be telling you what I eat daily or other ridiculous stuff like that, you may find that on my Twitter instead.

As you will learn by reading the “About Me” page on this website, almost everything regarding me involves music or pianos in one form or another, so even if I post a story about me, most likely it will be either directly related to digital pianos or at least music, but occasionally stuff that motivates me or inspires me in one way or another may also be shared.

So what exactly will I be teaching you about digital pianos? Since it is a bit hard to teach you how to actually play the thing via text, quite inefficient, I will only be teaching you the technical side of things.

This will range from the anatomy of the instrument, different features of various products, digital piano reviews of products by a variety of companies, guides on what to look for when purchasing your first digital piano to ensure that it is the best and of course taking proper care of your instrument and its accessories.

As I have said in the beginning of this post, this is just an initial plan that I haven’t given much thought to yet, things here may change dramatically and move on to a larger category or perhaps even focus on something more precise in the digital piano industry.

I hope to develop an active audience of people who are interested in the same things I am and find them just as fascinating.
